Biography

Petros Ioannou received his B.Sc. degree with Class Honors from University College, London, England, in 1978 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1980 and 1982, respectively. Before joining the University of Southern California (USC) in 1982, he was a research assistant at the Coordinated Science Laboratory of the University of Illinois. At USC, he holds the A.V. 'Bal' Balakrishnan Chair and serves as Director of the Center for Advanced Transportation Technologies, with courtesy appointments in the Departments of Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering and Industrial & Systems Engineering. He is the founder and Director of the Master's Degree program in Financial Engineering at USC and has served in various academic roles, including Dean at the University of Cyprus and visiting professor at institutions in Australia and Greece. Ioannou's research interests include adaptive control, intelligent transportation systems, and machine learning, resulting in over 400 publications and numerous awards, including the IEEE Lifetime Achievement Award and fellowship in various engineering societies. He is actively engaged in the automotive and aerospace sectors as a technical consultant.
