Petya Atanasova is a Research Fellow at Imperial College London's Business School in the Department of Economics and Public Policy. Her research expertise is interdisciplinary, focusing on environmental health, inequalities, public policies, and global health nutrition. Petya's primary research agenda addresses modifiable features of the natural and built environment, including food retail, advertising, green spaces, and air pollution, which significantly affect noncommunicable diseases and multimorbidity in low- and middle-income countries. She is particularly interested in the economic and public policy implications of these exposures, generating evidence to inform equitable and effective prevention strategies. Current projects involve mapping and characterizing environmental features influencing health, developing new exposure metrics using community-informed, spatial, and routinely collected data, and identifying causal relationships between environmental exposures and chronic disease. Petya joined Imperial as a PhD student in the Nutrition Research Faculty of Medicine and holds a Research Master’s degree in Neuroeconomics from Maastricht University.
