Biography

Dr. Phanourios Tamamis is an Associate Professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, where he also holds the Nancy Dan Zivney '73 Faculty Fellow position. His research focuses on computational design of functional peptide- and protein-based materials with applications in biomedicine and environmental contexts. He explores computational engineering concerning sorbent materials for toxic compounds and conducts studies on interactions between proteins and modified RNAs, DNAs, and small compounds. Moreover, Dr. Tamamis is investigating amyloid inhibition as a potential therapeutic approach for neurodegenerative diseases. He has received several accolades, including the Passionate Professor Award in 2019 and the Outstanding Service Award in 2018 from the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering.
