Biography

Phebe Vayanos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern California. She holds the Viterbi Early Career Chair and has served as the Co-Director of the CAIS Center and the ORAI interdisciplinary PhD Program. Vayanos' research focuses on advancing integer, stochastic, and robust optimization, integrating machine learning, causal inference, and economics to design predictive prescriptive models that are robust, interpretable, and fair. Her goal is to apply these methods to create positive impacts on society, particularly supporting underserved and marginalized communities. Vayanos has received numerous accolades, including the NSF CAREER Award and the Imperial College Emerging Alumni Leader Award. She is an Associate Editor for various journals, including Operations Research and Management Science. Vayanos actively participates in professional committees, such as the INFORMS AI Roadmap Adhoc Committee and serves as the Chair of the Committee on Stochastic Programming. Previously, she lectured at MIT Sloan School of Management and has a strong background in Operations Research.
