Dr. Phil Bull

Biography

Phil Bull is a Reader in Cosmology at the University of Manchester and has extensive experience in astrophysics, particularly in the areas of radio astronomy and theoretical astrophysics. His educational background includes a DPhil in Astrophysics from the University of Oxford, which he completed in 2013, and an undergraduate degree in Physics from the University of Manchester obtained in 2010. Phil has held various academic positions, including postdoctoral fellowships at UC Berkeley and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He is actively involved in major research projects such as the HERA collaboration and the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration, contributing significantly to observational cosmology and the design of radio instrumentation projects. Additionally, Phil has engaged with the open-source community since 2005, focusing on scientific software and documentation efforts. His teaching responsibilities include Physics and Astronomy, where he serves as the admissions tutor for PhD students. Phil is also a recognized mentor for new staff within his department and continues to lead projects aimed at advancing research in cosmology.
