Dr. Phil Gibbons

Biography

Phil Gibbons is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989. Gibbons has held research positions at several prestigious institutions, including the Mathematical Sciences Research Center at AT&T Bell Laboratories from 1990 to 1996, followed by the Information Sciences Research Center at Lucent Bell Laboratories from 1996 to 2001, and Intel Research Pittsburgh Lablet from 2001 to 2011. He served as Co-PI and Co-Director of the $15 million Intel Science Technology Center for Cloud Computing from 2011 to 2015. His research interests focus on big data, parallel computing, databases, cloud computing, sensor networks, distributed systems, and computer architecture. Gibbons has published extensively in notable conferences such as ASPLOS, ATC, CCS, and NIPS, contributing significantly to the fields of theory and systems within computer science and engineering.
