Biography

Phil Warsaw is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Sustainability. His research takes an interdisciplinary approach to questions of environmental justice, economic development, and sustainability, combining methodologies from economics and social sciences while utilizing critical theory. He holds a PhD in Economics and an MS in Environment and Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His current projects involve investigating the intersection of environmental quality and economic development, particularly in relation to gentrification in mid-sized urban areas such as Lansing and Milwaukee. Warsaw focuses on environmental justice and the connection between diversity and natural resources, drawing on environmental justice frameworks within natural resource disciplines, particularly in Ecological Economics. He is also developing data-collection toolkits and protocols for hospital administrators to quantify the impact of food purchases on the regional economy and to support farm-to-hospital programs.
