Biography

Phil Watson is a highly experienced offshore geotechnical engineer with 25 years of expertise. He is currently a Professor of Offshore Engineering at the University of Western Australia and serves as the Director of the ARC ITRH Transforming Energy Infrastructure Digital Engineering (TIDE). He previously held the position of Global Director of GeoConsulting at Fugro, where he focused on innovation and technology development in offshore engineering. Phil has also directed a specialist geotechnical consulting firm, Advanced Geomechanics, in Perth. His academic qualifications include a PhD in Engineering awarded in September 2001 and a Bachelor of Engineering (1st Class Hons) and Bachelor of Commerce, both awarded in March 1995. Phil is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering and the Institution of Engineers Australia. He currently chairs the ISSMGE Technical Committee 209 on Offshore Geotechnics and is a committee member of the ISO Working Group 10 and API Resource Group 7.
