Philip Andrews completed his PhD at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, and joined Monash University as a Research Fellow in 1995. He was awarded a prestigious five-year ARC QEII Fellowship in 1997 and was appointed as a lecturer in the School of Chemistry in 2004. Before joining Monash, he was an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at Philipps Universität, Marburg, Germany, and held a Royal Society Fellowship at Griffith University in Queensland. Phil is a highly esteemed chemist and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. Currently, he serves as a Professor and Interim Head of the School of Chemistry. As a founding member of the Monash Centre for Impact of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) established in 2020, he plays a pivotal role in driving the Centre's industry engagement strategy. His research interests focus on discovering new bioactive metal compounds with applications in anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and antimicrobial therapies, as well as the development of new antimicrobial materials. Additionally, he conducts synthesis of metal cages for medical imaging therapeutics and explores metal-mediated reactions involving main group organometallic complexes.
