Biography

Philip Baker OBE is a barrister at Field Court Tax Chambers, a new set of tax chambers established in 2014. Called to the bar in 1979, he began practicing in 1987 and took silk in 2002. Philip specializes in international tax issues and undertakes advisory work for corporate and private clients as well as government entities. He has appeared in cases at courts and tribunals at virtually every level, including the House of Lords, Privy Council, and the European Court of Justice. Beyond his practice, Philip has taught law at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London University, and was a Visiting Professorial Fellow at Queen Mary University of London. He is the author of 'Double Taxation Conventions' and 'International Tax Law', and serves as editor for the International Tax Law Reports and joint editor for the British Tax Review. Philip is a member of the Permanent Scientific Committee of the International Fiscal Association and the OECD Advisory Group on the Model Tax Convention. He has lectured on taxation around the world and holds visiting appointments at numerous universities including Harvard Law School, Hong Kong University, and the University of Auckland. He also gives an annual guest lecture on Corporate Tax Law and Policy for the BCL/MJur option and is a co-founder of the MSc in Taxation Law, which commenced in September 2016.
