Biography

General Philip M. Breedlove is a retired Air Force officer who served as NATO’s Commander and Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). Currently, he is a Distinguished Professor of Practice at the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Sam Nunn School of International Affairs and serves on the Board of Directors at the Atlantic Council. General Breedlove, a native of Forest Park, Georgia, graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and was commissioned in 1977 as a distinguished graduate of Georgia Tech's ROTC program. He has held numerous operational and command positions, completing eleven overseas tours, including key roles such as Commander of U.S. Air Forces Europe and U.S. Air Forces Africa. With 3,500 flying hours as a command pilot primarily on the F-16, he has flown combat missions in operations like Joint Forge and Joint Guardian. In his capacity prior to SACEUR, he was responsible for U.S. Air Forces activities across a vast area covering over 19 million square miles, including 105 countries. Breedlove has also served in senior staff positions such as Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force and Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force.
