Biography

Philip Goodwin is an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton specializing in Earth System Dynamics. His research focuses on the interconnections between the carbon cycle and climate changes over geological timescales and into the future. He investigates various aspects of climate including surface warming, sea level rise, and ocean acidification. Goodwin has collaborated on numerous research projects aimed at understanding climate sensitivity, carbon feedback mechanisms, and the dynamics of carbon fluxes between the atmosphere, land, and ocean. He currently leads modules in Climate Change, Ocean Data Analysis, and Palaeoclimate at the university, contributing his expertise to both teaching and research within the Ocean Science discipline. He holds an MSci in Physics from Imperial College, received his PhD in Earth Science from the University of Liverpool, and has held various postdoctoral research positions at the University of East Anglia, University of Cambridge, and University of Southampton. Goodwin is also a member of research groups focused on Palaeoceanography and Palaeoclimate, actively contributing to the understanding of our planet's historical climate dynamics and ongoing changes.
