Biography

Philip Harris joined the MIT faculty in 2017. He was born in Sao Paulo and received a B.S. in Physics from Caltech in 2005 and a Ph.D. from MIT in 2011, where his research was performed at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. From 2011 to 2013, he was a CERN fellow working on Higgs discovery. Between 2014 and 2017, he served as a CERN staff scientist focusing on dark matter searches related to the CMS experiment. Philip is a co-founder of the Fast Machine Learning Organization and currently holds the position of experimental coordinator at the Institute for AI and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI) and is the deputy director at the Accelerated Artificial Intelligence Algorithms for Data-Driven Discovery (A3D3) Institute. He has a keen interest in developing real-time deep learning systems involving various processor technologies, including FPGAs, GPUs, and ASICs, which facilitate his research into deep learning applications in multi-messenger astronomy and gravitational wave detection.
