Dr. Philip Knee

Biography

Philip Knee is a full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy at Université Laval, having joined the faculty in 1996. He previously taught at the University of Ottawa from 2004 to 2006 and has held several positions within Université Laval. His academic background includes a Doctorate in Philosophy from the same institution, along with degrees from the University of Grenoble and the University of Kent. Professor Knee's teaching includes a variety of courses on figures like Montaigne and Descartes, as well as broader themes in French moral philosophy and the Enlightenment. He has supervised numerous graduate students, guiding their theses on significant philosophical topics. He has also published extensively, contributing to various scholarly works and journals on modern philosophy, French philosophy, and political philosophy. His research interests bridge literature and moral philosophy, examining the intersections of philosophical thought and literary expression. Knee’s work and mentorship continue to shape an influential academic environment for philosophy at Université Laval.
