Dr. Philip Liu

Biography

Philip L-F. Liu is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and has a profound expertise in hydrodynamics and related fields. Liu's educational background includes a Sc.D. in Hydrodynamics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an S.M. in Civil Engineering from the same institution, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from National Taiwan University. His research interests encompass Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Tsunami and Storm Surge, Water Wave Theories and Models, Sediment Transport, and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Liu's contributions to the field have been recognized through various awards such as the International Coastal Engineering Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award. His work aims to enhance disaster resilience in coastal areas and improve understanding of complex fluid dynamics processes.
