Philip Lorenz received his PhD from New York University. His teaching and research focus on English and Spanish literature, particularly drama from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, along with exploring themes of sovereignty and political theology. His book, "Tears of Sovereignty: Perspectives on Power in Renaissance Drama" (Fordham University Press 2013), investigates the metaphorical logics employed by significant playwrights of the early modern period, including William Shakespeare and Lope de Vega, through contemporary theoretical lenses. He is currently working on a book project titled "Baroque Files," which examines the afterlives of early modern sovereignty and how representation shifts from the symbolic body of sacred kings to progressively abstract, disembodied forms found in public administration. His recent undergraduate courses include "The Question of Tragedy," "Introduction to Criticism and Theory," and "Comparative Renaissance Drama: Blood Politics," while his graduate offerings feature "Baroque Files."
