Biography

Philip McGuire is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford, where he serves as the Academic Director of the SPRINT and is the Principal Investigator at the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging. He co-leads the Precision Psychiatry initiative at the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre and works as a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. McGuire studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and pursued neuroscience at Yale University. He trained as a psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital in London and has extensive experience working as an academic psychiatrist at the MRC Cyclotron Unit and the London Institute of Psychiatry. He leads a large research group focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying psychosis and aims to use this information to develop new treatments and improve clinical care. McGuire has published over 800 scientific papers and has an h-index of 125, being recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and the European Psychiatric Association.
