Biography

Philip Nelson holds the position of Professor of Acoustics in the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton. His research interests encompass acoustics, vibrations, signal processing, control systems, and fluid dynamics. He served as Pro Vice-Chancellor from 2005 to 2013, where he was particularly responsible for research enterprise. From 2014 to 2018, he held the position of Chief Executive at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2018 New Year Honours for his services to UK engineering science. Nelson is involved in several research groups focusing on signal processing and immersive audio technologies, as well as various research projects aimed at advancing sound technology and personalized audio experiences.
