Biography

Professor Philip Parsons obtained his doctorate from the University of Southampton in organosulfur chemistry under the supervision of Prof. R. C. Cookson FRS. He subsequently pursued postdoctoral research on steroidal alkaloid germine with Prof. G. Stork. In 1979, he joined the faculty of chemistry at the University of Southampton. Professor Parsons has held chairs at the University of Reading and later at Sussex University before moving to Imperial College London as a senior research investigator in 2011. He is the founder and director of Cookson Chemicals, which became Tocris Cookson. Under his leadership, Tocris Cookson won the Queen's Award for Industry in 2002, and it has since evolved into Tocris Bioscience as part of the Bio-Techne brand.
