Biography

Philip J. Reny is a distinguished economic theorist and a faculty member in the Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics at the University of Chicago. His research interests cover several core areas of economic theory including auction theory, information aggregation, mechanism design, and game theory. Reny's current work incorporates elements of natural language into game theory, with an emphasis on developing simple conventions for understanding sequential equilibria. He holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University (1988) and has been recognized for his contributions to the field, becoming a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2015, a Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory in 2012, and a charter member of the Game Theory Society established in 1999. Furthermore, he was inducted as a fellow of the Econometric Society in 1996. Reny has served as Chair of the University of Chicago's Department of Economics and has held the position of lead editor for the Journal of Political Economy.
