Biography

Philip Tonner joined the School of Education at the University of Glasgow in August 2019. He has extensive experience in teaching and research, encompassing philosophy, religious studies, and anthropological archaeology education. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Glasgow (2006) and a DPhil in Archaeology from the University of Oxford (2016). Formerly an Honorary Research Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, he has also held positions at Hutchesons' Grammar School and the Open University. Philip was an Invited Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Macau in 2019. His research primarily involves philosophical anthropology and the history of Scottish philosophy, with notable work on figures such as Duns Scotus and the phenomenology of Heidegger. He has published significant works, including 'Dwelling: Heidegger, Archaeology, Mortality' and 'Conversations with Tim Ingold'. His teaching covers various undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and he is actively involved in supervising students across multiple research projects related to his interests in philosophy and education.
