Biography

Philip Yoo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies at the University of British Columbia. He specializes in Hebrew Bible and Jewish Studies. His academic journey includes a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Toronto, a Master of Divinity from Knox College, a Master of Sacred Theology from Yale University, and a Doctorate from the University of Oxford. His research focuses on Pentateuchal theory, Ezra-Nehemiah, Temple Judaism, and biblical interpretation. Yoo is the author of 'Ezra Wilderness' published by Oxford University Press in 2017 and has co-edited 'Gaul, Greece Noah’s Ark: Essays in Honour of Kevin J. Cathcart on the Occasion of his Eightieth Birthday'. He has authored several articles exploring themes in Hebrew Bible studies. His current book project investigates representations of the Exodus and wilderness accounts preserved in the Torah and Pentateuch. Yoo is actively involved in conferences and has presented his research at various academic meetings including the Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting.
