Philippa Hulley is an Associate Professor in Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford, based at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences. Her research interests focus on the integration of musculoskeletal tissue modeling and the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis. Hulley later joined the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa as a Senior Scientist and Lecturer in 1996, where she concentrated on mapping the effects of glucocorticoids on normal osteoblast signaling and their role in steroid-induced osteoporosis. In 2004, she was awarded a 5-year Arthritis Research UK Fellowship and became a University Research Lecturer in 2005, followed by a 5-year RCUK Fellowship in 2007. In 2012, she held the position of University Lecturer in Musculoskeletal Sciences and Tutorial Fellow at St Hilda's College, Oxford.
