Philippa is a planetary geologist specializing in using satellite imagery to study rocks, minerals, geology, and geomorphology in various environments. Her teaching and research focus on the translation of terrestrial techniques into Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) imaging spectroscopy to assist in understanding geological features and processes on Earth-like planets such as Venus and Mars. In 2022, she was appointed as a co-investigating scientist for the VenSAR Science Team (VeST) for the EnVision mission to Venus, which is set to launch in April 2025. She is also an Inter-Disciplinary Scientist for the European Space Agency, involved in the preparation phases of the mission, and will be contributing to the EnVision Earth Observation mission intended to study Venus for 3 years using a series of sensors aimed at gaining insights into the geology and climate of Venus, which is Earth's nearest neighboring planet. Philippa completed her BSc (Hons) in Geology from Southampton University, a MSc in Remote Sensing from University College London, and a PhD from Imperial College London. She has spent time consulting in the industry alongside her academic work and has been a part of the Department of Earth Science & Engineering since her PhD in 2000.
