Biography

Philippa Specker is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Clinical Psychologist at the School of Psychology, University of New South Wales (UNSW Australia). Her research focuses on understanding the psychological and environmental mechanisms underpinning recovery and psychosocial adaptation in individuals from refugee backgrounds. She is a member of the Refugee Trauma Recovery Program within the School of Psychology at UNSW. Philippa's work aims to inform the development and delivery of evidence-based psychological treatments for refugee communities both in Australia and overseas. Her specific research interests include posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, emotion regulation, and cross-cultural mental health. Philippa predominantly works with refugee communities in Australia and Indonesia and has published research in leading journals such as Clinical Psychological Science and European Journal of Psychotraumatology. She received her Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from the University of Sydney and her PhD/Master of Psychology (Clinical) from the University of New South Wales.
