Biography

Philippa Webb is a Professor of Public International Law at the Blavatnik School of Government and an Associate Member of the Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford. She is also a Fellow at Exeter College, Oxford. Her research interests span Public International Law with particular expertise in state diplomatic immunities, international dispute settlement, human rights, international organizations law, international humanitarian law, and international criminal law. Philippa has significant experience in both international and national courts, having previously served as Special Assistant Legal Officer to Judge Rosalyn Higgins GBE QC during her presidency at the International Court of Justice, and as legal adviser to the Chief Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court. She is a barrister at Twenty Essex and was appointed to the UK Attorney-General’s Public International Law Panel as Counsel. Philippa regularly appears as counsel and advocate before the International Court of Justice, the European Court of Human Rights, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, inter-state arbitral tribunals, and the UK Supreme Court. Her notable publications include works on freedom of speech in international law, the right to a fair trial, state immunity, and international judicial integration.
