Philippe Büchler received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne before moving into biomechanics. He completed his thesis on numerical techniques for the analysis of orthopedics and obtained his Ph.D. in biomechanics in 2002. He worked as a research scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and at the University Hospital in Geneva. In 2004, he joined the joint MEM Research Center at the University of Bern and became the head of the Computational Bioengineering group in 2006. His research interests include the application of numerical methods to study skeletal biomechanics and avascular soft tissues, as well as electromagnetic field simulation and statistical finite element techniques, which have expanded the fields of his research.
