Dr. Philippe Fontaine

Biography

Philippe Fontaine is a Research Associate and Project Leader at the Centre for Philosophy and Natural and Social Science (CPNSS) at the London School of Economics. His academic journey includes a PhD from the University Panthéon-Sorbonne and a postdoctoral position as a visiting scholar at Harvard University. Since the early 2000s, he has been actively involved in research, notably as a Ludwig M. Lachmann Research Fellow at CPNSS. Fontaine’s scholarly work primarily explores the history of social sciences, particularly in the context of the aftermath of World War II. He has contributed significantly to the academic field as a co-editor of notable publications such as 'Society Edge: Social Science and Public Policy in the Postwar United States' (Cambridge University Press, 2021), 'Historiography of Modern Social Sciences' (Cambridge University Press, 2014), and 'Unsocial Social Science? Economics and Neighboring Disciplines Since 1945' (Duke University Press, 2010). His expertise lies in interdisciplinary interactions within social sciences, examining common issues through a historical lens.
