Biography

Phillip Y. Lipscy is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto and the Richard Charles Lee Director of the Asian Institute. He specializes in Japanese politics and global affairs, holding a position as the Chair of Japanese Politics Global Affairs. Additionally, he is the Director of the Centre Study of Global Japan at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. His book, 'Renegotiating World Order: Institutional Change in International Relations' from Cambridge University Press, analyzes how countries seek greater international influence by reforming and creating international organizations. Prior to joining the University of Toronto, Lipscy served as an assistant professor of political science at Stanford University. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University, along with an M.A. in international policy studies and a B.A. in economics and political science from Stanford University.
