Biography

Phillip Paiement is a Full Professor of Law & Governance at Tilburg Law School. He obtained his PhD at Tilburg Law School in October 2015. His educational background includes an LLM in International Human Rights and Criminal Justice from Utrecht University and an MSt in Socio-Legal Research from Oxford University. Since September 2022, he serves as the Principal Investigator for the ERC Starting Grant funded project 'TransLitigate: The Agency of Transnational Strategic Litigators in Global Environmental Governance', which focuses on the collaborative networks of strategic litigators addressing climate change, pollution, and biodiversity. He has been recognized as the 'Most Inspiring Lecturer' by the student body of Tilburg Law School in 2018. He supervises PhD students in diverse areas such as property rights in rural China and the understanding of state roles in rural Uganda. His teaching spans areas including jurisprudence, comparative law, and legal theory within several programs at Tilburg University.
