Biography

Phillip Brian Smith is a distinguished professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Duke University, where he also serves as a member of the Duke Clinical Research Institute. Dr. Smith completed his residency and fellowship in neonatal medicine at Duke University Medical Center from 2001 to 2007. He holds degrees including an M.H.S. in clinical research from Duke University (2006) and an M.P.H. in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2009). His research focuses on pediatric drug safety, neonatal pharmacology, and the epidemiology of neonatal infections. Dr. Smith has been the protocol chair for more than 14 studies involving medications for infants and children and serves as the Principal Investigator for the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Coordinating Center. He has received numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health and other institutions to advance his research. Dr. Smith is recognized for his contributions to the field and has previously held positions including Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Quantitative Sciences in Pediatrics.
