Phuong Nguyen is an Associate Professor in the Electrical Energy Systems group at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on the applications of information and communication technology (ICT) in smart energy systems, particularly in areas such as distributed state estimation and the control and operation of power systems. He founded the digital Power & Energy Systems lab (digi-PES), dedicated to advancing the energy transition towards micro energy grids and future integrated energy systems. The lab provides a cyber-physical environment where students and researchers can explore innovations in energy-related topics, emphasizing nano/micro-grids, local energy communities, local flexibility, and energy markets. The research also delves into the use of big data and the Internet of Things (IoT), building comprehensive data-driven models for energy system integration. Nguyen received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Hanoi University of Science and Technology in Vietnam in 2002 and a Master's degree from the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2004. Following his academic pursuits, he worked as a researcher at Power Engineering Consulting Company 1 in Vietnam and completed his PhD at TU/e, focusing on Multi-Agent System-based Active Distribution Networks.
