Biography

Pia Caronongan is a Research Associate Professor at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development, where she focuses on developing research-based, data-informed policy strategies to support and improve access to the quality of early care and education (ECE). Prior to joining BU, she was a principal researcher at Mathematica, leading rigorous evaluations of early childhood initiatives and conducting in-depth examinations of the systems supporting ECE programs. Her work included projects with the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation at the Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, examining how ECE providers can support quality and how states and higher education institutes can promote the development of the ECE workforce through competency-based approaches. Dr. Caronongan's contributions to the field have been published in various peer-reviewed journals and policy reports. She is a member of the Child Care and Early Education Policy Research Consortium and has presented at national conferences on key developments in early childhood care and education.
