Biography

Piek Vossen is a Full Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in Computational Lexicology and Linguistics. He is the head of the Computational Lexicology & Terminology Lab and a co-founder and co-president of the Global WordNet Association. Vossen is recognized for his substantial contributions to language technology and has been awarded prestigious honors, including the Spinoza Award and recognition by the Dutch Royal House as a Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion. He is a member of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen and the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen, actively contributing to the field of computational linguistics and understanding natural language processing. Vossen combines linguistics with computer science to enhance understanding of natural language texts through innovative frameworks that utilize lexicons as fundamental resources for computational applications.
