Dr. Pier Giorgio Masci

Biography

Pier-Giorgio Masci is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at King’s College London and an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at Guy’s St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. His clinical research focuses on advanced Cardiovascular MRI and Cardiovascular Imaging at one of the largest and fastest-growing imaging centers worldwide. Dr. Masci trained in Cardiovascular MRI at KU Leuven in Belgium, completing his PhD in 2015 with pioneering work on clinical applications of Cardiovascular MRI in acute myocardial infarction. Over the past decade, he has developed an internationally recognized research program centered on imaging-derived biomarkers of the heart-brain axis, cardiovascular aging, and valvular heart disease, particularly mitral valve prolapse. His work integrates epidemiology, data science, and machine learning to uncover disease mechanisms that can improve clinical decision-making. Dr. Masci frequently publishes in leading cardiology imaging journals and coordinates multi-center international collaborations. He has contributed to European Society of Cardiology Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) consensus documents and is committed to mentoring the next generation of physician-scientists. He supervises PhD students in interdisciplinary programs at the intersection of advanced imaging, machine learning, and data science.
