Biography

Professor Lambiase is an expert in cardiac arrhythmias and technologies applied to treat these conditions. His research focuses on the mechanisms of arrhythmia and randomized trials of therapy; he pioneered the use of subcutaneous cardiac defibrillators as a form of minimally invasive therapy. Currently, he serves as Chief Investigator for the BHF-funded CRAAFT HF randomized trial aimed at atrial fibrillation and heart failure, in partnership with the British Heart Rhythm Society and the British Heart Failure Society, co-led by Professor Mark Petrie. His mechanistic studies focus on the genetics of arrhythmias and the mapping of ventricular tachycardia. Professor Lambiase leads the new UCL Neurocardiology Centre, which is funded by a British Heart Foundation Programme grant to investigate heart-brain interactions and develop novel neuromodulation approaches to prevent arrhythmias and treat cardiovascular disease. He has co-authored the ESC Guidelines on SVT in 2019 and on Ventricular Arrhythmias and Prevention of Sudden Death in 2022, and has published over 450 peer-reviewed papers in Cardiology, achieving an H-index of 76 with approximately 60,000 citations as of February 2024. He is also the editor of the Oxford Handbook of Inherited Cardiovascular Disease and serves as Associate Editor for the European Heart Journal. Furthermore, he acts as the Research Co-Director at the Barts Heart Centre.
