Biography

Prof. Pier Siebesma is a full-time professor at the Technical University of Delft (TUD) holding the chair in the Department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing as part of the theme 'Atmosphere, Weather & Climate.' He earned his PhD in 1989 from the University of Groningen with a dissertation on 'Multifractals, Multiplicative Processes and Turbulence.' Since joining the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) in 1990, he has focused on modeling and parameterization of dry and moist convection and cloud-related processes. His work has significantly contributed to improved convective parameterizations in global weather prediction models, such as the ECMWF. Siebesma has been involved in several field campaigns and is a specialist in using Large Eddy Simulations (LES) to develop parameterizations for operational weather and climate models. He has coordinated EU-funded projects and published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, focusing on understanding and modeling cloud dynamics, structures, and moist convection.
