Biography

Pierce Cantrell, Jr. is a Senior Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University. He earned his Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1981, and also received his M.S. and B.S. degrees from the same institution in 1971 and 1970, respectively. His teaching and research focus on areas related to computer communications networking, multimedia networking, and video conferencing. Cantrell has made significant contributions to understanding LANs (Local Area Networks) and WANs (Wide Area Networks), multilayer coding, and managing multiple multicast groups. He has been recognized for his outstanding teaching and was awarded the Tenneco Meritorious Teaching Award in 1992. Additionally, he served as the Texas A&M Faculty Senate Speaker during the 1995-96 academic year.
