Dr. Piero Fisichella

Biography

Piero Fisichella is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in the Department of Surgery. He graduated with a Medical Doctor degree from the University of Catania in 1994 and obtained an MBA from Northwestern University. His extensive surgical training began in general surgery residency in Catania, Italy, commencing his training at the University of Illinois at Chicago, finishing in 2007. Fisichella completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has contributed as a co-editor for several surgical texts. His primary research interests focus on minimally invasive surgical techniques for benign esophageal diseases, including gastroesophageal reflux disease and other esophageal disorders. Fisichella is an Associate Editor for BMC Gastroenterology and has been involved in various significant editorial roles in the surgical field. He is active in several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons. In addition to clinical practices at the Boston VA Healthcare System, he has directed a substantial Simulation Center at Loyola University.
