Currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Law and Legal Studies at Carleton University, Pierre Cloutier de Repentigny is finishing a PhD in Environmental Law at the University of Ottawa after having earned a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws. Prior to academia, he practiced law as a sole practitioner in Toronto and has been actively involved with the Law Society of Ontario. He has served on the International Law Commission at the United Nations and has worked with various federal government entities. His research interests focus primarily on Ocean Coastal Law, Biodiversity Protection, and the legal implications of the Anthropocene, exploring how law interacts with marine life and societal access to justice, particularly for transgender individuals. He is the Co-Chair of JusticeTrans, an NGO dedicated to improving access to justice for trans people in Canada. His recent projects include a collaborative research initiative aimed at understanding the legal access needs of trans and non-binary individuals, as well as studies on marine biodiversity law and the transformative ecosystem approach to cetacean conservation. Through his teaching, he aims to develop critical thinking and compassion among students, emphasizing experiential learning in areas such as environmental law, public international law, and legal theory.
