Biography

Pierre Fournier is a graduate in medicine from the University of Nice and in community health from the University of Montreal. He has been a professor at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine since 1989. He led the department and the Unit of International Health while being responsible for the global health axis at the CHUM Research Center. Since 2006, he has been an associate researcher at the Institute of Public Health Research (IRSPUM). He has also directed a research network and intervention in population and public health in West Africa, established in 2003 thanks to a $16 million donation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Previously, he held positions such as District Medical Officer in Burkina Faso and Public Health Expert at the African Development Bank in Ivory Coast before joining the University of Montreal. He served as Dean of the School for a four-year term from 2013 to 2017, and had a brief interim appointment.
