Biography

Pierre L’Écuyer holds the Canada Research Chair in Stochastic Simulation and Optimization, focusing on developing and studying efficient methods to generate random values by computer and enhance their performance. His expertise spans operational research, optimization, statistics, queueing problems, dynamic programming, stochastic modeling, and simulation. His contributions have applications in finance, communication systems, revenue management, and call centers. He completed a Bachelor's in Mathematics, a Master's in Operations Research, and a Doctorate in Computer Science specializing in operations research at the Université de Montréal. He is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research and a member of GERAD and CIRELT. In 2014, he received the Merit Award from the Canadian Operational Research Society for his outstanding contributions. Other recognitions include the Distinguished Service Award from the INFORMS Simulation Society in 2011, the Outstanding Research Publication Award in 2009, and the Urgel-Archambault Prize from ACFAS in 2002, among others. He also received the Killam Research Fellowship from 2001 to 2003 and the Steacie Fellowship from 1995 to 1997.
