Biography

Pierre Legendre has been a significant figure in the field of numerical ecology since he began his work at the Université de Montréal in 1980. His career includes various research roles, such as a research professor and director of research at the Centre de recherche en sciences de l'environnement. He specializes in the processes determining the composition of living organism communities and has substantially contributed to the development of numerical ecology. Notably, he co-authored the foundational text 'Écologie numérique' with his brother Louis Legendre, published in multiple editions and languages, which became essential reading in the field. Legendre has supervised numerous graduate students and has been involved in various research projects related to spatial community ecology and environmental statistics.
