Born in Montreal, I hold a bachelor's in forestry from Laval University and worked as a forest engineer. I pursued doctoral studies in Natural Sciences at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris and Montpellier, obtaining my doctorate in 1976. I have been an emeritus professor in the Geography Department at Université de Montréal from 1976 to 2011 and served as the department head from 1986 to 1990. Previously, I taught botany at Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, where I established the Laboratory of Paleobiogeography and Palynology in 1973. My research focuses on the postglacial history of vegetation and environment in Quebec, involving palynological studies and paleobotanical data to reconstruct ecological histories. I led the Pollination and Macro-Fossils Analysis Service from 1973 until 2011. My lab has produced significant databases that contributed to early international climatic reconstruction initiatives. I have authored over a hundred scientific articles and served as editor for the journal 'Géographie physique et Quaternaire.' I am a founding member of the 'Paléo-Québec' collection and have held various prestigious roles within several scientific associations, contributing to the field of Quaternary studies.
