Biography

Pierre Robin is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Toronto. He specializes in petrology, mineralogy, and earth materials, with extensive research interests in tectonics and physical chemistry related to deformation processes and phase transitions in minerals. His work includes numerical modeling of deformation within tectonic belts and the study of fluid flow in porous media. He has a solid academic background with a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MSc from the University of Toronto. He has significantly contributed to the understanding of metamorphic reactions, particularly in relation to the temperature and pressure conditions of crustal materials. His research has involved the development of theoretical models for fluid flow in crystalline rocks and fractured media, as well as the numerical description of deformed rock fabrics through statistical evaluations and petrographic image analyses. He has also explored the geological complexities of pre-Cambrian tectonics and has actively participated in the modeling and interpretation of tectonic layering and cleavage in various rock types.
