Piet Mulders is a professor emeritus in Theoretical Physics at VU University Amsterdam. He studied theoretical physics in Nijmegen and completed his Ph.D. under the supervision of Johan de Swart in 1980. His career includes positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a staff member at the National Institute for Subatomic Physics (NIKHEF) from 1984 to 1995 and served as a full professor at VU University from 1995 to 2020, where he was also part of the Nikhef Theory Group. His research focuses on Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), investigating the strong interactions of the standard model in particle physics, hadron physics, and high-energy scattering processes. He has contributed significantly to the study of multiquark hadrons and the role of transverse momentum in scattering experiments. He has supervised around 20 PhD students and 30 postdocs during his career. His research is recognized through an ERC Advanced Grant awarded in 2012, emphasizing the importance of transverse momentum-dependent polarized gluon distribution functions. He remains active in various research-related endeavors.
