Professor Dr. Pieter Swinkels

Biography

Pieter Swinkels is the Managing Director of the EngD Programmes in Chemical Product & Process Design at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). He coordinates the 4TU.SAI (Stan Ackermans Institute), representing the EngD programmes in the Netherlands. His roles include developing methodologies for biochemical product and process design, teaching, and applying these methodologies in MSc and EngD design projects in cooperation with industrial partners and knowledge institutes. With an extensive industrial network, he bridges the gap between 'innovation design' and the university's research programmes for new product and process implementation in industry. His teaching covers design processes from project execution to scale-up and scale-down of chemical processes for both EngD trainees and MSc students. Pieter Swinkels obtained his Ir. (MSc.) Degree in Chemical Engineering (cum laude) from the Technical University of Eindhoven in 1986, specializing in (bio)process design and process control. He has a background in applying chemical engineering principles in various industries, including energy, food, fuels, health, and specialty chemicals, having worked with Unilever and played a significant role in product formulations and manufacturing processes.
