Dr. Pieter Van Dokkum

Biography

Pieter van Dokkum is the Sol Goldman Family Professor of Astronomy at Yale University. His research focuses on Astrophysics and Cosmology, particularly in the areas of stellar populations, distant galaxies, and astronomical instrumentation. He is involved in various current projects, including 3D-HST, COSMOS-DASH, and the Dragonfly Telephoto Array, the largest working refracting telescope. He has significantly contributed to the understanding of astronomical phenomena through his experimentalist approach. Van Dokkum also serves as the Chair of the Physical Sciences and Engineering Tenure Appointments Committee at Yale, combining his research duties with his responsibilities in academic governance.
