Dr. Pietro Borghesani

Biography

Pietro Borghesani is an Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). He obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 2013, focusing on automated condition monitoring tools for rotating machines. His post-doctoral work involved industrial projects related to health monitoring and system identification across a wide range of mechanical systems, including bridges and large rotating machines, as well as road and rail vehicles. With 1.5 years of experience as a business analyst consultant at McKinsey & Company, he has continued his research at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) until the end of 2017, emphasizing asset health optimization in power generation and process industries. At UNSW, he is committed to advancing asset health monitoring and management, with particular interests in vibration sensing, signal processing, machine learning, and maintenance optimization. He collaborates with various Australian and international companies in aerospace and rail sectors. Additionally, he serves on the editorial board of Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing and is a member of the International Society for Engineering Asset Management (ISEAM).
