Dr. Pietro Liò

Biography

Pietro Liò is a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge, where he is a member of the Artificial Intelligence group and the Cambridge Centre for AI in Medicine. His academic background includes a PhD in Complex Systems and Non-Linear Dynamics from the School of Informatics, Department of Engineering at the University of Florence, Italy, and a PhD in Theoretical Genetics from the University of Pavia, Italy. His research interests lie in developing Artificial Intelligence models for Computational Biology to understand the complexity of diseases and to address personalized precision medicine. He is currently focused on Graph Neural Network modeling to build predictive models by integrating multi-scale, multi-omics, and multi-physics data. He combines deep learning with mechanistic approaches to enhance explainability and interpretability in medicine. He is dedicated to developing AI-based medical digital twins that improve self-awareness and decision-making systems to enhance social awareness. He has served on various committees, including those for student complaints and postdoctoral mentoring.
